Rangers midfielder Joey Barton has been suspended for three weeks following a meeting with the club’s manager, Mark Warburton, on Monday morning.
The midfielder had returned to the club for crisis talks after the 34-year-old confirmed last week that he was told to stay away from the club for several days in order to “re-evaluate the way I’m thinking” following a heated argument involving a team-mate, Andy Halliday, in the wake of Rangers’ 5-1 defeat by Celtic.
Joey Barton insists he has unfinished business with Rangers and claims he cannot wait to rejoin Mark Warburton’s squad.

It appeared this would spell the end of his time in Glasgow, after just eight games for the Light Blues, but he has informed his 3.25m Twitter followers that he is determined to return to Ibrox and make his mark on the pitch.
The 34-year-old Englishman said in a series of posts: “People far too quick to write (the team) off. Celtic game was first competitive loss since 28th December. Thirty-plus games.
I’m not going anywhere, happy to be judged after the season. Can’t wait to get back and show what I’m about. Came to be successful. Nothing’s changed. Never ran from a challenge in my life. Not about to start now.”
Barton has been spending his time away from the Gers promoting his new autobiography, No Nonsense, but the former Manchester City, Newcastle, QPR and Burnley player has been irked by some of the comments directed at him online.
He said in another tweet: “If you want to buy, buy it. If you don’t, don’t. But don’t come on here moaning at me today. Have a day off.
